Auto Accident: What To Do

No one likes to think that a car accident can happen to them, but statistics show that it is likely that you will be in an accident sometime during your driving experience. Of course, the time to learn about what you should do when an accident happens is before an accident takes place.

If you are involved in an accident, it is always safe to take these steps first:

  • Help anyone who is injured and/or call emergency services, if necessary.
  • Notify the nearest law enforcement agency.
  • Obtain full names and addresses of anyone involved and witnesses.
  • Take pictures of the vehicles involved and the accident.
  • Report the accident to your insurance company as soon as possible.

Body shops will typically give free estimates for repairs to your vehicle following an accident. If you have to have your vehicle towed following an accident, it is a good idea to have it towed to a nearby body shop. If the vehicle is immobile, having it towed to your home will only slow the claims process, as you will have to have it towed to a body shop later to be assessed.
